Lee's News at Destination Cartagena
Hello All,
First International Music Festival
Cartagena, January 6-13, 2007
The Victor Salvi Foundation of Chicago has instituted what promises to become a significant annual international classical music festival in Cartagena. The first edition was a dramatic event which combined formal presentations in the theaters, chapels and churches of Cartagena with open-air free concerts in the plazas of the city. Behind the scenes there were also significant programs directed at training music teachers, workshops for gifted students and youth orchestras, and helping with acquisition of instruments. The free public concerts were incredibly dramatic events, often at night, in the plazas of the city against a backdrop of the 16th and 17th century churches and city walls.
Under the direction of Julia Salvi and the artistic direction of Charles Wadsworth, the I International Music Festival is set to become an institution which will serve both to attract visitors to the city, and to bring the social benefits of classical music to the young people of the area.
